NUMERICAL MODELING OF SHINNECOCK INLET, NEW YORK, FOR COASTAL EROSION CONTROL SUPPORT AND INLET SEDIMENT MANAGEMENT

چکیده
The Shinnecock Inlet on the south shore of Long Island, New York, has experienced chronical erosion at down-drift beaches which require periodic nourishment to stabilize local shoreline. potential sand borrow site is selected outside inlet with minimum impact natural bypass process inlet. Supported by US Army Corps Engineers (USACE) District, a numerical sediment transport modeling study presently conducted explore engineering solutions for area and structural alternatives reduce beach erosion. field surveys have indicated drastic decrease along adjacent coast. result shows partial ebb shoal design without performs better together applications.

Numerical Investigation of the Impact of Inlet Channel Numbers on the Flow Pattern, Performance, and Erosion of Gas-particle Cyclone
The effect of adding extra inlet channels on the operation of the Stairmand Cyclone has been investigated numerically. The Reynolds stress model (RSM) and Eulerian-Lagrangian method were used to investigate the complex turbulent flow and cyclone performance. The impacts of one-way coupling and two-way coupling models on the cyclone efficiency and the calculation of cut-off size diameter were ex...
متن کاملBaseline Information Describing Sediment Physicochemistry of Totten Inlet and the Macrobenthos of the Proposed North Totten Inlet Mussel Farm
Background. Healthy shellfish populations are important to the proper function of estuarine ecosystems. Estuaries like Chesapeake Bay once held large numbers of American oysters (Crassostrea virginica). Historically, these oysters filtered the entire bay’s water volume every 3.3 days. Several centuries of over exploitation compounded by diseases such as Perkinsus marinus and MSX, coupled with w...

متن کاملDouble inlet ventricle. Lung biopsy findings and implications for management.
The lung was biopsied in 20 children with double inlet ventricle and pulmonary hypertension aged 2 months to 14 years. Eleven patients had two patent atrioventricular valves, three atresia of the right valve, and six hypoplasia of the left valve. Severe pulmonary arterial medial hypertrophy occurred in the nine children less than 1 year of age. The findings did not suggest a period of normality...
متن کاملBaroclinic tidal flows and inundation processes in Cook Inlet, Alaska: numerical modeling and satellite observations
A wetting and drying (WAD) algorithm is implemented in a baroclinic three-dimensional ocean circulation model of Cook Inlet, Alaska, where large tidal ranges (≈10 m) regularly expose extensive mudflats. The model includes tides and windand buoyancy-induced flows. In the upper Inlet, the model successfully simulates large amplification of tides and propagation of fast (3∼4 m s) tidal bores over ...
